Barbarian Firemaking

Barbarian firemaking is a method of firemaking available only to members with level 35 or higher firemaking. Instead of requiring the use of a tinderbox to light fires, you use a shortbow or longbow of any type (this does not work with Ogre, composite, crystal or dark bows) to light your logs 'the old fashioned way'. To start using this method, you will first need to speak to Otto Godblessed who can be found southwest of the Barbarian Outpost. When you ask Otto about Barbarian firemaking he will talk for a while and then will ask you to light some Oak logs with this method. After doing this, speak with Otto about firemaking with a bow again. You can light any logs with a bow rather than a tinderbox. The level requirements and experience rewards are in the table below.

Other Firemaking Uses

Firelighters

Firelighters are a possible reward from a Treasure Trail clue, and are a Gnome "invention." You will always succeed in lighting these kinds of fires, and depending on which kind of firelighter you have, it will burn a different color. There are currently 5 different kinds of Firelighters available:

Red
Green
Blue
White
Purple
Movable Cooking Spit

Are you the type that's always on the run? Do you feel the need to eat a snack wherever you're going? If so, the Rotisserie Cooking Spit is just for you! With this nifty invention (which can be Smithed), you can set up your own rotating roaster (over a fire) and cook either Chompy Bird Meat or Rabbit Meat. Simply use the meat with the spit, light a fire, and then used the skewered meat with the fire. Voila - one meal to go!

Fishing is an important skill that many RuneScapers rely on for food, since there are many areas full of healthy fish to catch. Other people choose to sell their catches for money, or trade them for other things that they can use. Since there's a variety of fish to catch, and many places to go fishing, this is an enjoyable skill.

But of course, there are several kinds of lures and other tools to use, and Members can even take part in a mini-game!

Getting Started

In order to start fishing, you're going to need to buy something to catch the fish with, and if needed, some sort of lure. The fishing shop in Port Sarim has a multitude of fishing gear, and they'll even buy the assorted fish that you catch. There's also a store in Catherby that sells Members' gear such as Big Nets.

The place that you can catch a fish, and the type of lures you use to catch it depends on the kind of fish you want to catch, so check the Fishing Gear and Fishing Chart below for specific info.

Once you've gotten everything together, find a sparkling fishing spot in the water and click on it. You may need to right-click to get the correct option. Your character will continue fishing until your backpack is full, or you click somewhere around you.

Each fish can only be caught with specific equipment, so it's best to buy those things to catch the fish.

Catching Fish

Once you begin to get better at fishing, you'll be able to fish for a wider variety of fish. Once fish are cooked, they can heal your lost hitpoints from a fight, and many warriors depend on skilled fisherman to sell them food. After you become an experienced fisherman, you can make a great deal of money in this trade.
